Gabriella Rowe is a Melbourne-based textile designer, and illustrator with a deep passion for vibrant colours, everyday rituals, and nature. Her inspiration stems from her daily walks with her two dogs, Goldie and Ando where she immerses herself in the diverse landscapes, city life, and captivating flora and fauna of Melbourne. Drawing from these moments, Gabriella infuses her surroundings into her creative endeavours. Her imaginative designs are further influenced by popular culture, star gazing, food, art, film, and television, resulting in unique and playful pieces.

Gabriella has a rich creative history. Growing up in a lower-class Mediter-Australian family in Coburg West, as the youngest of four and raised by two artists, deeply shaped her perspective and values. This upbringing instilled in her a commitment to supporting small, locally made artists and designers, who she believes are the driving force behind the fashion and textile industry. Surrounded by her family’s boundless creativity and their ability to transform ordinary objects into treasures, Gabriella developed a appreciation for handmade and bespoke designs.

Her childhood experiences of hunting through op shops alongside her sisters, seeking unique fabrics and eccentric vintage objects, ignited her love for vibrant and groovy patterns. This passion influenced her practice greatly and is still an endless source of inspiration. Gabriella’s creative process involves combining hand-rendered motifs and drawings with digital tools. She employs mark-making techniques, utilising mediums such as gouache, coloured pencils, and assorted mixed media, to breathe life into her illustrations.

Proficient in software like Photoshop and Illustrator, Gabriella seamlessly translates her intricate designs into digital formats while preserving their distinctive handcrafted aesthetic. She is also able to adapt her artistic style to suit project requirements and incorporates market trend research to guide her outcomes.
